The main idea is that life itself is a garden. Each character in the story starts off in a state of disrepair, just like in the secret garden. As the garden responds to love and care, so the children in the story do in their lives also.

A while back, I downloaded "song from a secret garden" from Limwire, it's a beautiful song, about 2 minutes into the song, the heart-tickling acoustic guitar began. It was so beauutiful...ah, I did mention that. :) Anyway,I bought the Secret Garden CD with the titled song but it's not the one. I'd greatly appreciate if any one would tell me the specific CD that has "song from a secret garden" with the acoustic guitar solo 2 mins in. Thanks :)

Are you sure you're not looking for Secret Garden's CD "Songs From a Secret Garden"? It's the only song with that title that I've ever heard of. I'd try typing in some of the lyrics in a search engine and see what pops up. If you still can't find it, I guess you'll have to be content with your little mystery song. :-)

My favorite would be scenes, not one scene. It's the entire last chapter when Archibald is alone and lonely and he hears Lilias' voice calling him. He asks her where she is, and she tells him she's in the garden. He goes back only to find the garden alive and beautiful...and his HEALTHY son. That entire reunion is beautiful. Archibald, himself, is changed.

In my opinion, if you're not a very advanced reader (if you're younger) then its a hard read, I tried reading it around the 5th grade and I couldn't get it, it just seemed kind of boring,

but about 6 months ago i went back and read it, and I thought it was amazing (:

I think like with any story the book is the best
Reply:The Secret Garden was the first book I read that I finally could see the reasons why I should stop and think. Before, I just read for the "action" and how it ends. I think that happens to most readers sooner or later. Why do people change? Do other people make them change, or do they sometimes just encourage them? Is change a "good" or a "bad" thing and why? Do we use other people as mentors and examples? Did the characters interact or just have one-sided harangues? All of that opens my mind to what I want to get out of reading a book. To say that a reader was bored has absolutely nothing to do with the book. The fault is the reader's and he or she is not doing his or her work. You can lead a horse to water, but after that it is the reader's job to figure out the ideas the writer wanted the reader to know, or learn, or just think about it. Thus it is up to you to decide "good" book or "just okay." However it takes some work.
Reply:I really love The Secret Garden. The story is wonderful and the imagery is fabulous. It's definitely well worth reading. It almost makes you feel the magic that is in the natural world around us, and you can understand just why Mary Lennox and Colin both change for the better. It definitely made me wish that I had my own secret garden!

now thats one movie I really did like here this little girl along with a friend they fixed up the once a beautyfull flower garden that had been locked up for how long I don't recall off hand.

but the two of them these two kids put it back like it once was a very awesome sright! and then when the little girl heard some one crying she didn't stop looking for who it was even when she got caught and once she fround who it was that was crying which it was a boy that was bed fasten due to being ill and not able to walk.

that little girl and the friend they kept working with this sick boy until they got him to walk again!. no one could believe their eyes when this lad was up moven about and above all when he started walking!.

yes this movie was awesome movie and I am glad I own one.

Reply:I always thought that visually, my favorite scene is when Mary enters the garden for the first time.

A high stone wall, covered with ivy on either side of Mary, who stands in the middle. She would be small in comparison. With one hand, she would hold the ivy away from the open door, letting you see a glimpse of the garden as she faces it.

The robin would be on top of the doorway.

This is where god put adam and then sucked eve off of adam. they hung out for a while because the plants were pretty but then they got hungry and went looking for food. so even gave adam a poison apple and they had to get out of the secret garden. it was a pretty boring book but i bet it would make a great movie.
Reply:It is a book written by Francis Hodgson Burnett. The story above is pretty accurate. It has been made into a film a couple of times. The theme is the rejuvenating affect of nature on sick souls and bodies.

first of all, what is GACS??? lol. i guess it should seem like i should know that but i don't haha.

ok, colin's character is a rude, spoiled child. he is mean to mary and pretty much everyone else too. the impression you get is that he needs a father figure in his life, but his father is never around, and his mother is dead. i don't exactly remember if he is just pretending to be sickly, or if his is made to think he's sick, or something else.

i really don't know if that helped. but hopefully it did. colin's a good role. enjoy it!

Reply:Colin Craven was a 'poor little rich boy' whose father had nothing to do with him because Colin's mother had died shortly after his birth. His cousin Mary, equally spoiled, discovered the secret of his exsistance and

her fearless approach to him-not being afraid of his tantrums, forcing him to learn to walk and go out to the secret garden helped Colin develop a normal life.
Reply:Anna is correct. Colin's father can't be around him because he reminds him of Lily, his wife who died while giving birth to Colin. Colin has been brought up believing he's sickly, his father is a hunchback and worries that Colin will be one too. Colin is kept inside and away from seeing other people except the servants. He is spoiled, and feels sorry for himself. He is alone in many ways but his father does love him but feels he is helpless. Colin gets everything he wants and throws tantrums. He's pig headed and thinks he is going to die. Mary helps him realize he isn't going to die and takes him out to his mother's neglected garden where the 2 of them start to return it to it's former glory. In the process, Colin gets outside, for the first time in many years, gets stronger and learns to walk again.

The secret garden was about Mary Lennox, who is sent from her home in India after sudden death of her parents to live with a distant family friend on a English estate. Sad and lonely she finds a garden that was closed up after the tragic death of the wife of this friend of her father's family.. A son, Colin, was born before she died and considered a cripple.

Mary helped the crippled son walk. Colin thought he would die and believed he had a hump on his back. Mary Lennox helped him stop feeling sorry for himself. His problems were imagined.

The father was sent a letter by the sons nurse and when he returned he found them in the secret garden. The joy in finding his son was no longer a cripple brought the father great joy.

I don't know if the albums of this group are available in download format, but at least you can buy them as real CDs. So far Secret Garden have released these albums: Songs From A Secret Garden; White Stones, Dawn Of A New Century, Once In A Red Moon, and Earthsongs. Oh, and although many think that a song "You Raise Me Up" is by Josh Groban, it is ORIGINALLY by Secret Garden!!!

Yesterday, on televison, they showed the movie "Return To The Secret Garden." In this movie Mary and Collin had gotten married. Weren't their mothers twin sisters in the first movie? I thought Mary and Collen were 1st cousins?

Well.. hmm.. yeah.. I wouldn't have realized that.. but it wasn't uncommon for the time period. If you watch Pride and Prejudice (not sure if it made it into the newer version, but the BBC one with Collin Firth had it) Lizzie's cousin proposes marriage to her as well. Partly that was to keep the money and lands in the family.

the song is called GREENSLEEVES. I do not know who is the woman singing it in the movies is, I do love how she sings it though and wish that I did.
Reply:If you remembered any of the words, it would help a lot because I know a lot of traditional/folk songs and might recognize it. I haven't seen the film for a very long time, so I don't recall the song since I watch at least 100 movies a month sometimes.

OMG! I am soo glad you asked that question. I love the secret garden. It's a long story, but I'll sum it up just for you! lol. Well this girl named mary wasn't wanted by her parents, so she was shipped off to her uncle. His wife died, but he has a son, colin. Mary doesn't know about him. Colin is crippled and has a bad temper. So mary found a secret garden strolling alon the outside. She is friends with a neighbor(sry forgot his name). They find the key, the garden is all dead. They fix it up. Take colin outsid. Fix his crippleness, reunite him with his father. Happy ever after

Such a greats story, and movie. I highly recommend it.

Okay, well i've read the novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and i remember when i was younger i watched the movie, but thats when their was vhs, and yeah but i was just wondering if it would be on dvd somewhere In australia and I also remember watching another version of the secret garden. But it was another girl that was in a soccer team at the start of the movie. Would their be another book of the second version?

umm the one with the girl on the soccer team is RETURN to the secret garden, its meant to be a sequel. I wont go into detail if u've already seen it though. Im pretty sure you could find it at most big department stores. I usually go for JB Hi Fi, or online at amazon.com, but other than that i cant really help lol soz hope u find it, i love those movies(and the book is awsum =D)

Okay i have to make a brochure for the Secret Garden book. This is what the directions say.. "The garden in this story was based on a real garden from the author's life. Design a tourist brochure that describes the place and encourage thourist to visit it. Include pictures of the garden in the brochure." So yeaa.. Please help, I cant find the plants and flowers. I have a few but not enough. It would also be nice if you could give me the info about them if you want.. but ill do that if you dont want to. [:

This might help. Roses were important in the Secret Garden; I've just scanned through the first few chapters and found that Mary discovered, on her first visit, the little green shoots that would grow into snowdrops and crocuses for spring.

"They're bulbs," answered Martha. "Lots o' spring flowers grow from 'em. Th' very little ones are snowdrops an' crocuses an' th' big ones are narcissuses an' jonquils and daffydowndillys. Th' biggest of all is lilies an' purple flags. Eh! they are nice. Dickon's got a whole lot of 'em planted in our bit o' garden."

I can't read the rest of the book, but you could quickly scan it and see what other flowers would have been there. You can also make things up! Google Great Maytham Hall and see if there are any pictures - I found a few.

"At the time of her death, a friend wrote in a letter to The New York Times that the origin of the Secret Garden was Mrs. Burnett's rose garden at Great Maytham Hall, Kent.

Frances Hodgson Burnett, lived at Great Maytham Hall from 1898 to 1907, where she found the old walled garden dating from 1721 sadly overgrown and neglected. The theme of the book is mingling with the beauty of nature. Once a person is in tune with nature, then that person realises genuine beauty and attains true happiness.... That's what I thought after reading the book... and it does fit in with Colin's makeover and Dickon's outlook of life

Reply:I love their stuff - it's not bad quality at all!!! My fave scent is the Amber Romance.

If you get the body sprays, get the lotions too (they usually have some sort of 2fer deal) and the scent will last longer. On their own, the sprays last a few hours. The parfum/colognes will last longer.

Secret Garden (Own words)?
Mary Lennox is a little English girl who has been brought up in India. Her parents die, and she is sent to England to live with her uncle, Mr Craven, who she has never seen, at Misslethwaite manor on the Yorkshire moors. She is escorted to Misslethwaite by her uncle's housekeeper, Mrs Medlock, who tells her the sad story of Mr Craven and his wife, who used to be so happy together until Mrs Craven died. They used to spend a lot of time together in a walled garden, which was their own special place, and after she died Mr Craven locked the garden and buried the key, because he couldn't bear to go in there any more.

At Misslethwaite, Mary is looked after by a maid called Martha, who is astonished at how sickly and cross Mary is. She tells Mary she should go out into the fresh air. Mary wanders about the gardens, and meets Ben Weatherstaff, the bad-tempered gardener. She begins to be interested in finding the secret garden. One day she finds the key to the garden, and opens the door. The garden is overgrown and neglected, and Mary begins to try to make it into aproper garden again. She grown stronger and healthier through being outdoor and getting exercise.

One day Mr Craven comes home and asks to meet her. When he asks her if there is anything she wants, she asks him "Might I have a bit of earth?". She wants to make her own garden, but of course she doesn't tell him where. He says she can, though he doesn't know she means the secret garden.

One night Mary hears crying in the house, although Martha tries to convince her that it is the wind. However, Mary is convinced it is a real person, and one day she finds her way into a room where a sickly boy is lying in bed. He is Colin, the son of mr Craven, and he is an invalid. he explains to mary that his father hates to see him because he is sick. Colin believes that he is going to die. he takes a liking to mary and decides that she should visit him sometimes. He has a very haughty manner because he is used to getting his own way.

Martha's brother Diccon comes to the garden to help Mary with her gardening. Dickon knows all about plants and animals, and has a way of making things grow. Mary admire shim very much, but Colin gets angry one day when she will not come and visit him because she is busy in the garden with Dickon. He throws a terrible tantrum, and Mary goes to his room and shouts at him. he tells her his fear that he is going to die, and she says it is nonsense and he is not.

Colin begins to go out in his wheelchair, and the fresh air begins to make him better. Dickon and Mary take him intot he secret garden, where he begins to exercise and grow strong. He wants it kept a secret because he wants to surprise his father when he comes home. He grows stronger and healthier all the time. The servants are bewildered, because although he seems strong and healthy, he still acts sickly and cross, because he doesn't want to spoil the surprise when his father comes home.

One day Mr Craven, who is abroad, has a dream in which he thinks he hears his dead wife, Lilias, calling to him. "Where are you?" he calls out, and she answers "In the garden". When he awakes, he decides to go home. When he gets home, he is told that the children have gone into the garden. He looks for them but can't find them, then he hears laughter coming from the secret garden. As he walks towards the garden, the door flies open, and Colin comes running out, and runs straight into his father's arms.

I have a small "secret" garden.

It isn't exactly secret, but apart from friendly neighbouring cats, bird, frogs and newts, I'm the only one who uses it.

Although in a Town, it isn't overlooked and I could sunbathe there naked.

It's like an old fashioned cottage garden with a small fish pond and waterfall, round stepping stones from the house which weave round under the old pine tree - each one commemorates the life %26amp; death of our puss cats, this leads to a pergola covered in Wisteria, honeysuckle and Albertine roses, then there is my "round house", a tiny octagonal summer house with just enough room for two cane chairs and coffee table, plus shelves with geraniums.

The garden has an old apple tree (James Grieve), raspberry canes, a red currant, black currant, strawberry pot, and a gooseberry. My wisteria which climbs to our bedroom balcony is just about to come into flower - it's called "Purple Patches". All the late Spring bulbs are in flower and so are the wall flowers; the runner beans are ready to go into the ground and they twine up a trellis with a tayberry and loganberry. The summer hanging baskets (lots of Busy Lizzies) will go up soon to replace the winter pansies.

It's very private, a mass of colour and such a lot of never-ending (pleasurable) work to keep it looking good.

What specail things would you put in it for you to enjoy it?

I'd like something that was about 30ft x 30ft in size. I'd enclose it on all 4 sides with a border of thick woodland/natural plants and the border would be about 10ft thick. On one side, I'd have an arbor as a doorway with something like Sweet Autumn Clematis to cover the arbor.

Inside, I'd plant ferns, hostas, astilbe and ditch lilies along the edge of the woodland border. Near the center, I'd plant some birch trees to give a little shade...but not too much. Under the birch trees I'd have a pond with a fountain and koi. I'd also put a Japanese maple near the pond...or maybe a weeping cherry tree.

I would have a few paths in my secret garden with stone benches so I could sit and enjoy the different areas. I would also have a lot of large boulders and rocks which would divide the areas of the garden up into little rooms.

As for decor...I'd have a few odd statues here and there plus some stone birdbaths and some birdfeeders hanging from the trees.

Most of all...I'd like it to be colorful, yet serene. LOADS of plants that would attract all kinds of birds, butterflies, toads and frogs.

That would be my ideal secret garden. :-)

Reply:Running water over stones, totally natural, wild flowers and plants (most people call these weeds) and a comfortable seat for me to take my book . It would be surrounded by clambering wild roses, honeysuckle and other climbing plants. Plenty of special places for small animals to enjoy the peace and tranquility with me! Bird tables bird baths to keep those little creatures happy too.l

We took the name came from the classic book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, in the book a little boy gained his strength and health through visits to that Secret Garden. When we planned our own secret garden, we chose plants and props that would stimulate the senses of anyone visiting it, using colour, textures, aromas and sound. So I would have to say, fill your garden with things that will stimulate your senses and enjoy!!!!

I love watching humming birds, Honey bees, and solitary wasps.

Oh, Grape vines, and in the fall SEDUM, the bees go crazy for Sedum in the fall. I could sit for hours and watch who comes to the Sedum to drink!

I also would want a pretty stream running through it. One that pools in a corner of my garden so I could have Koi, but no Duck weed, Lily's , and deep cold black/clear water in winter.

Hemlock and Spruce, Red twig and yellow twig Dogwood bowing down laden with new snow.

Reply:I would plant lots of beautiful sweet peas, lily of the valley and pink and white roses. I'd have a stream running through it with a little bridge, a wishing well, a sundial and a bird table. There would be lots of wild flowers and willow trees, so that there would be places for kids to hide and make camps. And to top it all, a two storey treehouse for my kids to play in.

Reply:Interesting question...my secret garden would be in a forest of hardwood trees, with green moss underfoot, and some stones where you could sit and listen to the birds. There would be a little brook running through it. In summer, it would be cool, green, and shady. In winter, the sun would shine through the bare branches. I can't think of anything that I would need to add.

In Mario Galaxy (for the Nintendo Wii), how do you find the secret star in "The Gusty Garden" (windy stage)
Here's your answer. That large yellow ball is the Golden Chomp, and you guessed it: he's got your Star.

To get it, from the beginning of the level, you need to collect every golden ? coin you see. The first will generate another, and then another, and so on. In order to get them, you need to time your ascensions on those spinning flowers very carefully. Stay calm while floating, and hold still: when the controller starts to rumble, THAT'S when you should shake to ascend again. That way you'll get maximum height and distance and get all the coins easily.

Eventually, you'll acquire a Rainbow Star, which makes Mario temporarily invincible. While you're invincible, destroy the Golden Chomp and grab the Star.

the first guy is right but their is more the girl also has some problems like she is stubborn and very unappreciative. I liked the book in the beginning it was really boring but as so as you get pass that it is good. Another problem is that the boys father is in denial about his son and doesn't like him and can't face the fact of his wives's death.

the main problem is the boy in the wheelchair, he is so sickly and she wants to help. the whole story is pretty much about her helping him learn to do his best and move out of that wheel chair

I've been digging up the weeds and come across a few bones- they do look very old. Where can I get them checked out? I want to know if they are human or animal- in case my garden holds a deadly secret!!

What would you do if you found bones in your garden?
My guess would be that they are the bones of someone's pet that was buried there. Why don't you take a couple of them to a local vet and ask them to take a look and see if they recognize them. If they say they're animal, then just dispose of them. If they're human...call the local PD. (Kind of creepy either way)

Reply:May well be a long past pet like a cat or dog or it could be the bones of a Sunday roast. If the garden is an old garden and there is large long bones then I suggest that you inform the police first, then they might call in an archaeology team if it is the site of an old grave.

Reply:Just pop into your local police station and tell them all about it, they should be able to advise you. It's probably's some previous resident's dead pet.
Reply:When my church was building an addition, they dug up some bones. I don't know what the process was, but they had to hire an archaeologist to id and move the bones. It might cost you some money, but you might try asking a municipal development office if they have a reccommendation of who you could contact.

Reply:It is very likely that they are animal bones, not human. Call your local police department, do not use 911, and ask.
Reply:Found three whole dog skeletons once, it really throws you when you stick your spade through a rib cage, I worried I'd found a baby's grave, carefully unearthed the skull realised it wasn't human and decide that was deep enough for the manure to go in.

However if your bits of bone are fragmented and near the surface it is likely a previous owner had a dog bin them.
Reply:I would probably assume it was a pet dog, but I would see if I get someone to identify them and keep them where they are. In all probability if it is human it's probably a burial from a long time ago.

How to grow anything in Texas clay soil and 106 degree weather. Any of it is a miracle.
Reply:Mushroom compost. It makes everything grow. Also keep anything dead out as soon as you see it. Everyone thinks you have a green thumb even if you loose a few plants.

Reply:I can only think of one book where there is a haunted garden and that is Toms Midnight Garden. It tells the story of a boy who is staying with his aunt and when the clock strikes 13, the house reverts to how it would have been in Victorian times and there is a beautiful garden outside.

Mine is Amber Romance. I don't care for flowery or fruity scents personally. Amber Romance is a bit more on the sexy side. I use the body wash, lotion, and perfume. I get compliments on it from men all the time. Also, it's the only perfume from Victoria's Secret I've ever worn that actually lasts.

She has lost both of her parents suddenly and she did not have a good relation ship with them anyways. She is dealing with the loss as well as being moved to live in a strange place with people she does not know. It also upsets her when Colins dad finally comes and see him at the end in the garden and the are reunited. Mary feels sad and alone, she has helped colin and his father but she is reminded and feels like she is not wanted.

The Secret Garden is a musical based on the Frances Hodgson Burnett book of the same name. The musical's book and lyrics are by Marsha Norman, with music by Lucy Simon. It premiered on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on 25 April 1991 and closed on 3 January 1993 after 709 performances.

It is set in colonial India and in England in 1906 and tells of a young English girl, Mary, who lives in India but is forced to move to England and live with her Uncle Archibald when her parents die in a cholera outbreak.

It garnered the 1991 Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical, Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Daisy Eagan), and Best Scenic Design (Heidi Landesman); the scenery resembled an enormous Victorian toy theatre with pop-out figures, large paper dolls, and Joseph Cornell-like collage elements.

It's a great musical for families; only intermittently (especially with Colin) does it get oversentimental, and I think the score is teriffic.

It won Tonys for Best Book, Best Scenic Design, and Best Featured Actress, and was nominated for several more, including Best Musical; also nominated were Once On This Island and Miss Saigon, all of which lost to . . . . The Will Rogers Follies. Evidently the voters were drunk. :)

1) they want the person they are recommending it to, to try and learn to be more positive

2) they feel connected with the person they are recommending the book to, and they think that person will connect to the book too...

Reply:You mean the book? Let's see...okay, there were some interesting twists to the plot, which are fun for the reader to figure out. The main character is a girl. She's not the typical heroine from a Victorian children's book either, you know, sweet, delicate; she's more angry. The imaging was nice. And adults can read the book so the parent and the child can talk about it.

The "improvement" here refers to the fact that, initially, Mary Lennox is portrayed as a spiteful, selfish girl and the book's plot follows the girl's obsession with death and her realization, through the "resurrection" of a dead garden, of life's positive aspects. Colin and his father also learn this same valuable lesson. All three must let go of the past and enjoy the possibilities of life. They are able to turn grief and bitterness into a renewed vigor for life, in other words. Hope emerges supreme as Mary shows them the way.

OK, my daughter has an audition in a few weeks for a role she's always wanted. Funny thing is she has used The Girl I Mean To Be as an audition song a few times where a ballad is called for, but now auditioning for the show we can't use it this time. She usually sings something upbeat for other auditions, but I don't think that would be appropriate here. Any chance anyone has a good suggestion or two? We would very much like to find something that shows she can play the character so if you know the show I would appreciate if you would say how you think the song you're suggesting represents Mary's character. We have considered Castle on a Cloud but I think it's overdone. If that's all we have then we may go with that, but please make suggestions from musical theatre shows!

"Where is Love?" from Oliver! is a good child's song as well and can just as easily be sung by a girl. "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music and "Goodnight My Someone" from The Music Man are also good choices, and would be in the appropriate age range.

OK, my daughter has an audition in a few weeks for a role she's always wanted. Funny thing is she has used The Girl I Mean To Be as an audition song a few times where a ballad is called for, but now auditioning for the show we can't use it this time. She usually sings something upbeat for other auditions, but I don't think that would be appropriate here. Any chance anyone has a good suggestion or two? We would very much like to find something that shows she can play the character so if you know the show I would appreciate if you would say how you think the song you're suggesting represents Mary's character. We have considered Castle on a Cloud but I think it's overdone. If that's all we have then we may go with that, but please make suggestions from musical theatre shows!

As for another "similar character and tune" Castle is lovely and similar, but is heard a lot (and that can cause a great singer to get lost in the pack if the song is overdone- not necessarily, but possible) My suggestion would be "Little Lamb" from Gypsy (Styne/ Sondheim) , it is a ballad- and the young girl is lamenting over her life traveling in Vaudeville and not even knowing her birthday. A bit melancholy in style, but a beautiful melody. Hope she knocks 'em of their seats!

I was watching the 1993 disney remake and it seemed like every one of the males liked mary romantically. Dickon and mary seemed like they would be cute together but they were of different classes. Also, Colin said he wanted to be together and he got jealous when mary and dickon stare at each other on the swing and first cousins married too even einstein I think and he's much more modern day than these two. Lord Craven old as he is, he has no blood relation and she looks like his desceased wife. and well, back in the day there was the May-december marriages. UMMM, Yes and No. The 2nd story is not really like the first one. It's not magical or whimsical or cute any longer. I warn you the rest of what you are about to read gives away a lot of info and contains spoilers. So if you want to watch the movie first then don't read the rest of this:

I can understand how Dickon went somewhat crazy after the war. But Mary and Colin? Mary is nothing better than a whore, and Colin becomes gay! I find it disturbing that Mary's first husband married her simply because she looked like her mother, with whom he had been in love. Her behavior toward her child was cruel, and totally different from the personality of Mary formed in the original. At the beginning of "The Secret Garden" I admit that Mary was a bit of a brat. But she grows out of that, then speedily becomes the brat she once was in Susan Moody's sequel. She would not have treated her own child in the exact way her own mother treated her. Colin is also disapointing. After he marries his cousin--very nasty--Mary finds out he is gay when she is carrying his child! Dickon is not the charming, lovable boy read about in the original. Mary refuses his offer of marriage because he is below her in social status. After reading this book a few months ago, I was strongly disturbed, and still am. If you love "The Secret Garden," DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!! It will ruin the magic felt in the original book.

For the Secret Garden, the best version I have found is the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" version. Girl has waist length wavy brown hair, as opposed to most other versions which have a blonde lead. It is pretty close to the book.

BTW.. Hallmark Hall of Fame movies, in case you didn't know, can be found at almost any Hallmark Store.

The most popular version of Secret Garden was put out by Warner Brothers, and is probably the most recent adaptation of that story. BUT I didn't care for it. The book does NOT depict the children chanting and having what is basically a seance in the garden. That's why I hate that version!!

NOTE: there is an old version made in the 30's or something, that I have only seen once, along time ago. I don't remember it that well, so I can't say that it isn't very good too, but I do know that the Hallmark Version has always been my favorite.

Can't say much for the "Secret Garden," I've only seen the Warner Brother's one, but there was a cartoon of the Wind in the Willows which starred Vanassa Redgrave that was frighteningly close to the book (same dialoge and everything). As for Peter Pan...try the one with Mary Martin.
Reply:I'm a complete Peter Pan fanatic, and there aren't really any films which are one hundred percent faithful. The most faithful to the text(arguably) is the 2003 film with Jeremy Sumpter in it, and this is a really good film. The Disney version omitted a lot of important parts in order to make it suitable for children, including the Wendy house, as they couldn't show Wendy getting shot. The silent film version is good, and faithful to the stage adaptation, as a woman plays Peter. Hook is the least faithful as it is an extension rather than a reproduction, but is still an interesting film to watch.
